I have a somewhat different, fun post today!
I have been a lover of music (most all kinds) since I was very young.
As my Christian walk grew over the years, I began to notice that often times, a secular song would have lyrics that seemed to be a cry out to Jesus – even though that was not likely the artist’s intent. I believe that the “Jesus sized hole” that is in every human heart directs much of our desire, even if the individual does not acknowledge Jesus.
I also like “redemptive” and “happily ever after” themes in song and music – I believe because redeeming is what Jesus is all about. Combine beautiful music with passionate, redemptive lyrics, and it gets my tear ducts to activate!
Just today, while driving, I heard two songs from playlists that I had not heard in a long time. Looking at these songs with fresh eyes and an eye for the times we are living in, really took me back a bit – I imagine that neither of these artists (or the song writers) had any idea how “end times-ey” the lyrics are.
I love both of these songs, and now they give me Holy-Spirit goose bumps (Chicken skin for my Hawaiian family…) Below are the two songs, and I really encourage you to listen to them. I’ve chosen versions with lyrics to help. Of course not every word and phrase fits the message that I’m reading into them, but the overall picture painted says enough to me.
I’ll present two songs below. The first song is a song that I first heard performed by Celine Dion and Andre Bocelli – two very amazing voices. Just look at some of these lyrics:
I pray you’ll be our eyes
and watch us where we go
And help us to be wise
in times when we don’t know
Let this be our prayer
when we lose our way
Lead us to a place
guide us with your grace
To a place where we’ll be safe.
I mean really? Are you kidding me? Please enjoy the song below.
The next song I will present to you is a very recent song by Harry Styles (of One Direction fame.) Again, see some of the lyrics:
Just stop your crying
It’s a sign of the times
We gotta get away from here
We gotta get away from here
Just stop your crying
It’ll be alright
They told me that the end is near
We gotta get away from here
More goose bumps for me! God works through EVERYONE – and he’s left a mark, a longing on each person that can only be filled by Him – and the message of that longing is a very familiar cry out to Jesus. Enjoy this video:
That’s all for right now. I just had to share – to me it’s encouragement as we watch and wait for our savior.
